Pet Peeves

I really miss blogging.  One day I will catch up...or maybe I wont.  I have a feeling that I'll be around a lot more in the near future.

We went to Cabo earlier this month.  It was amazing...but I will post about that another day.  On to more important things, pet peeves.  A lot of things bug me.  I try to be an optimistic, up beat person...but I don't know if that's really me.

Angela's Pet Peeves
This is definitely not all of my pet peeves, just some that have been really bugging me as of late.  They are in no particular order.  I'm sure I will offend someone, I'm sorry.

  • Loose and Lose.  Get it right people!!! They are two completely different words! "You have a loose tooth".  Or, "you have a screw loose".  & then there is the word "lose".  "You will lose the game".  I hate it when people get this wrong.
  •  The posting of a huge album of bridal pictures on facebook, or blogs, or instagram or any other social media BEFORE the wedding.  Um duh???  You just gave everything away.  Now I already know what you are going to look like, so why should I go to your wedding now?  You ruined everything!
  • I hate it when someone honks or yells at you while they are driving, when they THINK that you made a driving error...but you really didn't! And you try to give them that look that says "Um, hello!  I didn't do anything wrong!!!"  but they dont get it.  Example:  While driving in the walmart parking lot this week I went straight through an intersection and did not stop because I DID NOT have a stop sign.  The old man to the left of me, who was sitting at a stop sign, started honking at me.  It's so frustrating to not be able to tell them that they are wrong!!!
  •   Europeans announcing American soccer games.  Some are okay, but I hate most of them.  It's like we get all of the rejects who couldn't make it big in Europe...and then we American's hire them because we figure that if they are from Europe then they must know what they are talking about when it comes to soccer.
  • MMK this is probably going to be the most controversial.   I am all for immigration.  I love all people.  What I cannot stand is when these immigrants have been raised in the US for most, if not all of their lives, and are US citizens go to a soccer game and cheer for the Hispanic team.  Ex:  Real vs Monterrery in the 2011 CONCACAF.  There were more Hispanic fans than American fans. RIDICULOUS!  So crazy to me how they can be cheering for RSL one week, and then the next week they decide to cheer for the team from Mexico.  Um, did they not leave that country for a reason?  Wouldn't you have some pride for the country that is giving you freedom and opportunity?  So confusing to me.
  • When people use the word "Caca" when talking to babies, toddlers, or kids.  So weird.  Why not just use the words gross?  Why are you trying to confuse them by teaching them ONE word of spanish?

  • Facebook posts one minute about how someone is so depressed or is so miserable.  Oh wait!!!  Next post is about how great and wonderful their life is! So happy that your life just changed in a matter of minutes.
  •  When overweight people tell me that I'm not eating healthy.  Self explanatory.
  • Racist people.  It's just ridiculous.
  •  Slow drivers in the fast lane
  • Long fingernails on guys.  This is what it looks like to me:
  • "Me Monsters" that are over the age of 30.  Lets face it.  You expect kids and teenagers to constantly be talking about themselves.  20 year olds don't really have an excuse...other than we are in the prime of our lives and have awesome stuff going on.  Once you hit 30 it is really time to grow up!
  • Even amounts of punctuation.  !!! ... ???  Odd numbers are visually pleasing.  Don't even think about texting me with even amounts of punctuation.  I will re-type your message and send it back to you using odd amounts.....or I will be too embarrassed and will type it up just so that I can see it the correct way, and then not send it.
That's all I can think about for now.  Good day.

Growing up and getting a job, what a shell shock!

Shawn's Perpective
I have always been a very optimistic and ambitious individual. Now I understand why my parents told me to have a plan b when my soccer ambitions fell up short. I hated hearing it as a kid and never accepted it as a viable outcome, that soccer may not be my career. I am fortunate enough to coach in a club as a part time gig. I love it and it is a passion of mine. There is nothing better than helping a kid gain success in the world's greatest game. I have the greatest joy when I see the smile on the boys faces while they enjoy the jubilation the game has to offer. Not to mention how fun it can be on game days to get those old familiar butterflies I used to get as a player. The game still occupies my mind on most days and helps get me through my adult real life responsibilities. If I could truly have it as a full time career I would jump at the opportunity. I know I would devour every opportunity to grow and develop more as a soccer coach. The problem being is that the bills have to be paid, and there are not many coaches that make enough money. So I am stuck in the daily grind doing work:/

My challenge has been understanding really what I want to do for the rest of my life. When I went to college I had no idea of the vast possibilites of employment that existed. I blame that on our public schooling system, and my lack of exposure to the adult world. I was limited to the jobs my friends and family were exposed to. Growing up in a working class middle america, your vision is enclosed to your surroundings. I freely admit that I was a very naive boy. But how could I know what I didnt know? Being exposed to the world of opportunities in college, my brain is still in somewhat of a system overload. I am always learning about new job markets and career opportunties. I get started on a certain path and have an ADHD moment, when I hear of other paths. I am not seeking any sympathy on my part. I have a descent paying job in one of the worst economic times of U.S. history. I am not in need of empathy. I just feel like maybe there could be more done in our schooling systems to train kids on the many job opportunities. Or maybe I just missed the boat while dreaming of a soccer career?

I love shoes

Every girl loves a good pair of shoes...and if you don't, then I'm not sure I want to know you.  I have a special place in my heart for heels.  Most people assume that I love heels because I'm short.  ?   No, I just love heels, and I'm pretty sure that I would love them even if I were 7 feet tall.  I love that my husband is a whole foot taller than me, so it allows my heel range to be pretty wide.  12'' to be exact.

There is one type of heel that I feel was specifically made for me.  Seriously I have never worn a better heel, overall.  It's as if the designer took a mold of my beautiful feet and created a masterpiece just for me.  They are so comfortable.  I just love them so much more than any other shoe I own.  I am 5'1 and maybe it helps that this designer is also a "petite" woman...she is just a few inches taller than me.  So if you haven't already guessed...or if you know me at all...then you know that I'm referring to Jessica Simpson's Shoes .
While finding a spot in my shoe closet for my latest purchase, I decided to showcase my collection.

So this is my collection, it's not large, but it's slowly growing.  I love every single pair.  They each have their own special memories.

A few Memories:
Top Left: my first Jessica Simpson shoe purchase...my life changed forever.  You can tell that the shoe is a bit out of style...and very worn.  Love that shoe.
Middle Left: I purchased those this last summer, and wore them for a special funeral.
Bottom Left: These are the very first Jessica's that I made Shawn buy for me. I remember standing there in Nordstrom giving him 101 reasons why I needed that shoe.  Guess it worked!
Top Right:  Newest purchase. I have been looking for a red heel forever!  So glad that I stumbled upon these at the Rack today.  "Lipstick" red?  Yes please!
Bottom Right: My wedding day shoes.  Awwwww.....such fun memories. Can't believe that that day was almost 4 years ago!

So I love Jessica Simpson's shoes.  & how can you not help but love Jessica Simpson herself?  I fell in love with her on her reality show with Nick Lachey, "The Newly Weds".  This is where my love for reality tv was born.   And I bawled my eyes out when Nick opened his heart to the world, and cried when he told everyone that their marriage ended.  And now Jessica is pregnant...and so is Nich's wife...and I couldn't be happier for them.
This shoe will be my next Jessica purchase:

Miss me?

What we've been up to lately...

I forced Shawn to take some new "family" photos.  He was such a grouch the whole morning.  I wasn't sure if I was ever going to get him there.  He finally snapped out of it, and we actually had a lot of fun.  I still haven't seen all of the edited pictures, hopefully soon.

I can't believe I'm saying this...I'M ALMOST DONE WITH SCHOOL.  More like the end is in sight.  We register for our board exams really soon, and its making it all seem so real!  I take boards in December.  DECEMBER??? Only 9 months away!  Which means I really need to start studying for them.

I am in the middle of pharmacology right now.  I thought oral pathology was the hardest class...I WISH I could go back to that class.  Pharm is ridiculous.  I thought it would just be memorizing drugs.  nope.  Just a few more weeks left...and then I'm hoping that the homework load might ease up just a little bit... so that I might actually have some spare time to be able to study for boards.
Shawn is busier than ever with soccer.  We were in Vegas last month for a men's tournament that he played in.  Shawn really doesn't even get to play very often.  Coaching is what takes up all of his time.  There are only a handful of people that I know who really understand our soccer life. Everyone else thinks that soccer is just a summer/spring sport.  & that Shawn just "enjoys" playing with his friends.  This is definitely not the case.  Soccer is year round.  & it never really slows down, except for maybe just a little during futsal season.  His older boys just tried out for all of their high school teams.  Shawn was a stress case all week worrying about his boys making their teams.  He is a great coach, and his boys really look up to him.  We just found out that Shawn needs knee surgery.  Poor Shawn.

Some weeks I feel like I never get to see Shawn during the week.
What keeps us so busy?
  • Soccer/ Futsal almost every week night
  • Clinic/cleaning teeth
  • Pharm Lecture
  • Full time Job for shawn
  • work for me
  • Study time
  • Gym time
  • Finding patients!!!
  • Activity days
  • Hunting down my patients when they don't show up...
  • Did I say soccer/futsal?
We are so tired by the end of the week that we usually are so boring on the weekends:
  • Clean
  • Study
  • maybe just a little more soccer
  • Church
  • Movies! -we love our movies!
  • Family time
  • Friend time?
  • More studying
  • Paper writing
  • Relaxing time
Elena.Chandra.Jess.Me...on our way to convention.
I have made a few really great friends from hygiene school.  I don't know what I would ever do with out Chandra.  Sometimes being with the same girls every day for what will be 2 1/2 years, is hard.  There are some really fun/great girls.  I feel like I can get along with pretty much anyone.  But. When I graduate. There are some people that I just will not miss(:

I miss blogging.  & being so behind stresses me out. There are a lot of things that I've had to put on the back burner lately. I feel like I'm usually so "on top" of things.  School has turned me into a zombie.  Shawn would tell you that this lack of control I have in my life has turned me into a little bit of an obsessive compulsive mess.  I think that if keeping the apartment clean, and running/working out, and eating healthy are the only things I can control right now...then I'm going to control them.  Mmk?

Anyone need their teeth cleaned??? Starting at the end of this month I will be seeing patients on Monday/Thursday afternoons and Friday mornings.

help!

Please help me spread the word!

I'm a dental hygiene student and I'm looking for patients!  I see patients on monday and thursday afternoons from 2:15-5:15.  My school is in Salt Lake City 3900 S 700 E.

It is a great deal for those who do not have dental insurance.  My clinic is brand new and has state of the art technology for almost everything we use.  The one downside is that I'm a student, and i'm learning...so the cleaning will take longer than what you are probably used to.

The first visit is just $20 and includes xrays, doctors exam, cleaning, prophy, fluoride etc.  Any visit needed after that is just $10. I am looking for children, adults, elderly & special needs patients.

If you have dental insurance we can definitely still see you, we just can't bill your insurance.  If you are just nice, and love me  & just want to help me out with my education then come get your teeth cleaned!

It has been so stressful trying to find patients who will actually show up to their appointments.  Please help me spread the word, it really is a great deal!  So if you or someone you know is interested  please leave me a comment or facebook me!

Oh and don't forget. You should be brushing your teeth TWICE a day people!  And you should be getting your teeth cleaned professionally 2 times a year.  It is so important!  Did you know that your mouth could harbor harmful bacteria that could kill you?  ya...it does...so let me clean your teeth so you don't die! (:

Disgusted, & blessed.

I have become one of those people that never updates their blog.  I am disgusted with myself.  It seems hopeless when I think of everything I need to catch up on.  I will do it some time, probably not for a while.

In the meantime, here is what we've been up to.  It's going to be long...just a warning.

I have been very busy with school.  The end of October, and beginning of November were miserable for me.  I didn't think I'd ever make it to Thanksgiving!  None of my patients were showing up (which meant I had to be literally out on the street looking for patients), our instructors were throwing all of these random projects at us, and trying to cram 6 weeks of material into about 10-12 days...I started Oral Pathology, which is a crazy hard class...Oh, and I had to miss an Oral Path lecture to make it to my cousins wedding.  Guess what?  I will have 5% deducted from my final grade for missing one lecture + I had to write a 5pg paper on an unrelated topic.  Don't worry, I met with the dean of education, and the director about it.  Anyway, lots of stress, anxiety, and lots of nights spent crying to Shawn.

Thanksgiving Day in Vegas
However, with all of this drama there have been a few perks.  I lost 5 lbs... which is a lot for me.  But, I'm sure I gained most of it back after stuffing my face with everything I could see this Thanksgiving.   I have also grown a greater appreciation for my husband.  He has put up with so much lately.  I have NOT been a good wife.  I don't ever cook, I am ornery most of the time, I cry a lot, nagging is my forte, and I spend all of his money on therapy (Retail).  I am also so thankful for a Father in Heaven who truly hears and answers our prayers.  After receiving a blessing given by husband, my dad, and my brothers, my life has been a lot easier.  Seriously, it's an amazing miracle.  No more anxiety, no more random nose bleeds, no more "no-show" patients and a lot less crying and stress.  I feel so blessed.

Shawn has been a busy man himself.  He recently turned 28!  Wow that seems kind of old.  He helped out with State Cup a lot last month, and was recently given another team to coach.  He has been working at eHealth Insurance enrolling old people for medicare.  He seems to really like it, and comes home with lots of funny stories.  He is working hard to prove himself worthy of being a permanent hire.  He leaves for work at 6am, works until 3, and then heads straight to coaching.  Some nights he doesn't get home until 8 or 9.  He works so hard to provide for us, and never complains.  Over Thanksgiving he took his new U14 Premier team to Vegas for a tournament.  He has walked into this team amidst a lot of craziness, but a lot of the parents stopped and talked to me about how they are so impressed with him and his coaching philosophies.  I am so glad that he gets to do something that he loves and that he is so great at...while teaching these kids values and a love for the game.

Sometimes I get frustrated and throw a pitty party for myself.  I get overwhelmed with hygiene school and this phase of life that we seem to be stuck in.  I envy those who are able to start a family...buy a house and are well into their careers.  Occasionally, I let the pitty party last a while, but usually a favorite song pops into my head "Because I Have Been Given Much", and I am reminded how much I really do have to be greatful for.  Life could be so much worse, and there are so many people who do have it worse than us.  Shawn and I are looking forward to doing some special service projects this holiday season.  If you want to join us, let us know!

A Halloween Flashback

I took these pictures, of pictures, at my mom's the other day.  They were so fun to look through.
1 yr

3 yrs?

4 yrs

5 yrs.  I loved this costume!

Ha...you will notice in a few of the pictures that I am holding the boys arms or throats, to make sure they are paying attention and smiling at the camera.  What a bossy pants!
This was during curtis' batman phase. He was obsessed...wore his cape everywhere.  Look how cute Kev is in his little Robin outfit!
 So fun.  Love old pictures.

ya know what I don't love?  Halloween.  I can never really get into the halloween spirit.  You see, the reason being is that I feel like it steals my thunder.  October is my birthday month.  I shouldn't have to share it with Halloween.  Also, figuring out what you are going to dress up as in not fun to me...more like a stressful chore.  Anyway, hope all you Halloween lovers have a great Halloween.  I will be watching a fustal game that Shawn will be coaching.

I have so many things to post...like my 25th birthday festivities.  Perhaps I will next week. After this hellish week is over with.  Have I mentioned to you all lately how much I hate hygiene school?  And how the director is trying to cram 6 weeks of material into 10 days?  and how the stress caused one of the girls to go into labor prematurely?  And how they will probably somehow see this and then I will get kicked out of the program?
